ReadiGolf uses the World Handicap System (WHS) logic to calculate course handicaps and net scores. Here’s how handicaps flow through the app.
Index vs. Course Handicap
Handicap Index – A standardized measure of your potential, stored in your player profile. It’s the same everywhere.
Course Handicap – Your playing handicap for a specific course and set of tees. ReadiGolf computes this as: Index × (Slope ÷ 113) + (Rating − Par). The app uses the course’s slope and rating from its database.
Where Handicaps Are Set
- Player profile – Your Handicap Index is stored on your player record
- Player–Course handicaps – For each course, you can have a stored course handicap that ReadiGolf uses for that course
- Play Date overrides – Commissioners can set or override course handicaps for a specific play date (e.g., for a tournament or special event)
Net Scores
Net score = Gross score − Course handicap (adjusted for holes played). For 9-hole rounds, only the applicable 9 holes are used. Hole handicaps (stroke index) determine which holes get a stroke; the app applies them automatically based on the course’s handicap configuration.
RG Index
ReadiGolf also calculates an RG Index from your 10-round scoring history. This is used for challenges (e.g., over/under on birdies, pars) and team balancing. It’s separate from your WHS Handicap Index but complements it for in-app features.
Keeping Your Index Updated
If you maintain your handicap through a club or GHIN, update your ReadiGolf Handicap Index periodically in your profile. For casual groups, ReadiGolf can derive an index from rounds you enter—check your group’s settings for how that’s configured.
